SO, WHAT ARE MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES?

1 09 2008

The theory of multiple intelligences was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. It suggests that the traditional notion of intelligence, based on I.Q. testing, is far too limited. Instead, Dr. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults. These intelligences are:

bullet Linguistic intelligence (”word smart”):
bullet Logical-mathematical intelligence (”number/reasoning smart”)
bullet Spatial intelligence (”picture smart”)
bullet Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence (”body smart”)
bullet Musical intelligence (”music smart”)
bullet Interpersonal intelligence (”people smart”)
bullet Intrapersonal intelligence (”self smart”)
bullet Naturalist intelligence (”nature smart”)

We will be doing an activity this week to determine your strengths, or intelligences, based upon a survey questionnaire that you will complete.  From here we will develop a spreadsheet and chart to show your strengths at this time and what you may need to improve upon.
